Water Conservation Special Topic Class
Sustainable Food Center

Central Texas summers are scorching. While summer is a time of garden abundance in more temperate regions, here in Austin, it may be a struggle to keep plants alive. Ever feel like when you water your garden, the water evaporates before it hits the ground? Or is your garden filled with droopy, sad plants? This is the class for you.

We’ll discuss appropriate plant choice and watering techniques for our hot, dry climate. Learn how to deliver water directly to the plants’ roots using olla pots, wicking beds, drip irrigation, and other water-efficient techniques. Everyone will go home with drought-tolerant seeds, and one lucky participant will take home an olla pot.

-       The majority of the class will be held in the SFC Teaching Garden. Please dress for the weather and bring sun protection.
-       Snacks and water provided. Please bring your own reusable water bottle.
-       Class price is $35.*

*All proceeds from this class support free gardening education and resources for families in need. Limited scholarships available upon request.
