Grow Basil, A Hot Weather Hero

It won't be long before we bid adieu to greens--our summers are just too hot for most of these tender leaf crops. Creative cooks and gardeners can compensate though, with a few varieties that withstand high temperatures (Malabar spinach, chard, arugula) and big-leaf, colorful basil! Basil thrives here in Austin—get it well established in the spring, and it will brave our hot summer like a hero, producing tasty leaves to flavor your dips, dishes, and beverages all the while. And it doesn't just tolerate heat, it loves it! Read on for tips for planting now and harvesting all the way up to next year's first freeze. Read More »»

Shop Greens, Eggs & Ham at the Market this Week

We will eat them in a house. We will eat them with a mouse. We will eat them here and there—we will eat them anywhere! April is “Greens, Eggs & Ham” month at the market—celebrate local, pastured eggs, abundant lettuces and braising greens, all things pastured pork, and everything made with these local, healthy ingredients! For inspiration, we’ve got three new Pinterest boards for you—Beautiful Greens, The Egg & I and This Little Piggy. Also check out our Greens, Eggs & Ham vendor specials for April and come out and see us at your favorite market this week!
