Mendez Middle School and the SEED Adult and Family Learning Community

This week, SFC's Grow Local program spoke with Cameron Allen of The SEED Adult and Family Learning Community at Mendez Middle School to find out more about this unique school and community garden project that has unfolded over the last year. Cameron attended SFC's Grow Local School Garden Leadership Training last September and enrolled the garden in Grow Local’s Spread the Harvest program. We hope this garden story inspires you!

Here at Sustainable Food Center, we know that food inspires and transforms lives. To honor those experiences, we are collecting food stories from folks around the community. In celebration of learning, healing and inspiring, here is Jasmine’s story:

Jasmine grew up in the Northeast with her Grandmother who loved eating foods like pigs’ feet and cabbage with hot sauce. “As a kid… I knew that food was important for your health.” But she also knew that those foods that she was eating were making her Grandmother sick; she passed away at the age of 58 with diabetes and heart disease. “When my grandmother passed away, I made a vow to change my eating habits.” For Jasmine, that meant...

Farmshare Austin - Second Annual Farm Raiser
On July 31st Farmshare Austin will host its 2nd annual Farm Raiser at the historic Saengerrunde Hall in downtown Austin. The event will feature square dancing (with lessons first!) and live music, bbq, local vegan and vegetarian delights, and craft beverages.
