Citizen Gardener

Launching a New Citizen Gardener Certification Program!

Starting this fall, you’ll notice some changes to SFC's Grow Local gardening class offerings. Our Introduction to Food Gardening class formerly known as Citizen Gardener - will continue to offer new gardeners and gardeners new to Central Texas with a holistic, hands-on introduction to organic food growing. Facilitated by expert gardeners, this this two-part class gives participants the knowledge needed to start and sustain a food garden, from choosing a site and building a raised bed to water conservation and organic pest management. I have tried them all (mostly as I worked for another bakery at the Farmer’s Market) - Chocolate Hazelnut Tort, Frangipane, Pecan, Lemon, assorted Berry flavors, the sweet and the savory, all resting in correct and delicate crusts. SFC HAPPENINGS

Fresh & New at the SFC Farmers' Market
Its National Farmers' Market week! Show your love and support the vendors. Come out and vote for your favorite vendor at SFC Farmers' Market Downtown and SFC Farmers' Market at Sunset Valley this weekend.

Mike Richardson will be selling Richardson's Italian sausage at The Triangle; they are perfect for your grill that night. Fresh fruits and veggies are still a highlight of all markets, with the heat taking a bit of a toll but a strong selection and high quality still available. Of note on Saturday, the SFC Farmers' Market at Sunset Valley offers special spicy pickles from Kubena Farm, popcorn and okra will be at Fruitful Hill, and flavorful San Marzano tomatoes from Hairston Creek. At the SFC Farmers' Market Downtown look for a lengthy list of produce, say ‘hi’ to Swede Farms and try their goat cheeses, and sample the salves from Springfield Farms to soothe your summer skin.
