We have much to be thankful for this season and this week we’d especially like to show our appreciation for a group that is often-overlooked: Farmers, who nurture our food, lands and bellies. In each of our three programs, Grow Local, Farm Direct and The Happy Kitchen/La Cocina Alegre®, we interact with farmers in different ways. Thank you, farmers, for all that you do to cultivate healthy communities!

Our program empowers children and adults to grow their own healthy food, and we could not do this without the wisdom, insights, and best practices that farmers have gathered over time. Farmers inspire us as we endeavor to teach and motivate others to garden at home, school, or in their community. To the Farmers Who Feed Our Community: Thank You!

TPart of our mission at Sustainable Food Center is to make sure that everyone has access to fresh, healthy, affordable food. All year long, each of our four Farmers’ Markets accept SNAP (previously called Food Stamps) and WIC (Women Infants and Children) benefits. In addition to these benefits, between early summer and early fall, SFC teams up with the Texas Department of Agriculture and WIC to encourage more families to come to Farmers’ Markets and shop from local farms. Fresh & New at SFC Farmers' Markets
While the SFC Farmers' Market Downtown is the perfect place to buy your weekly fruits and veggies, it is also a great place to get a chocolate treat! Cocoa Puro Chocolates is an prepared foods vendor that has a variety of chocolate delicacies to that will please any lover of sweets. Make sure to order gift chocolates such as dark chocolate covered grapefruit caramels or dark chocolate orange vodka truffles before the holiday rush!

If you cannot make it to the Downtown Farmers' Market, head on over to SFC Farmers' Market Sunset Valley and visit our featured vendor Goodwin Homestead for their one of kind art yarns, felted purses and scarves and other knits.
