In Search of Sustainable

You may have recently heard the word “sustainable” being thrown around, whether it’s on labels, in commercials, or in the name of our organization! The many farmers and gardeners with whom SFC works generally practice sustainable methods of food production, and they are certainly participants in, and contributors to, a sustainable food system. Usually, this is a term used to describe an environmental aspect of a process or product. This Week at the SFC Farmers' Markets

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Saturday from 9am-1pm:

• Stop by the market early for solar powered eggs from Milagro Farms - they are so good they sell out fast! Try them as an omelet filled with cremini mushrooms from Kitchen Pride Mushroom Farms.

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Saturday from 9am-1pm:

• This week pick up tomatoes from Hairston Creek Farm. Top them with Swede Farm Dairy’s chevre goat cheese with chives for a unique, local twist on the classic caprese salad.

Farmgrass Fest
Local nonprofit Farmgrass invites you to two days of pickin' and grinnin' at the third annual Farmgrass Fest on May 14-15, 2016 at Simmons Family Farm. The festival raises money for an emergency medical fund to support Central Texas farmers. Learn more »
