At the end of this bustling school year, our Grow Local team reflects on the Austin Area school gardens we’ve supported through our programming. SFC’s Grow Local program offers School Garden Leadership and Classroom Trainings, consultations and site visits, free resources through our Spread the Harvest program, Introduction to Food Gardening Classes, and School Garden Start-up and Activity Guides. This Week at the SFC Farmers' Markets

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Saturday from 9am-1pm:

  • Construction Update: You may have noticed some changes downtown as construction of Republic Square Park has started, but don't worry, SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown will continue operations as usual as we move into peak summer harvest season. For more information about the park beautification project, check out the Austin Parks Foundation website. See you at the market!
  • Treat Yourself: Grab a sweet treat from Cake and Spoon from the market this Saturday while you browse and shop farmers’ row. They’ll have local peach and cinnamon scones, local blackberry frangipani scones and fennel, leek, and gruyere quiche!
  • Summer Fruits: With summer right around the corner, we are seeing an increase in fruit at the market. Check out Lightsey Farms juicy and sweet peaches and plump blackberries - the perfect summer treat!

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Saturday from 9am-1pm:

  • Organic Veggies: Get organic goodies like golden potatoes, fennel, and juliet tomatoes from Hairston Creek Farm this Saturday at Sunset Valley!

Green Gate Farms 10th Anniversary Party
On June 4th from 4-10pm, celebrate local, organic food, flowers and farms at one of East Austin’s most historic farms. Help Dewberry Hills Farm
On Saturday, April 30th a massive thunderstorm devastated the Dewberry Hills Farm sustainable pastured poultry farm. This is the fourth weather catastrophe to strike Dewberry in less than a year, and their resources are exhausted. They've set up a GoFundMe campaign to help rebuild their farm. June Elgin Farm Tour
On June 12th, the City of Elgin is hosting a guided tour of Down Home Ranch and Coyote Creek Organic Feed Mill. Cost is $15 dollars and includes parking and veggie samples. Learn more »


Slow Food Tomato Dinner at Springdale Farm
Taste the very best of tomato season on June 21st at Springdale Farm. The Tomato Dinner, benefiting Springdale Center for Urban Agriculture and Slow Food Austin, will highlight a variety of types and preparations of vine-ripened tomatoes from the farm. The evening will begin with a seasonal cocktail and appetizers, followed by entree courses and a plated dessert by participating chefs and artisans from Weather Up, Confituras, Bufalina, Eden East, Counter 3.
