Summer Fun with SFC and Creative Action!

Summer Camp with Creative Action

For the third year in a row, we partnered with our neighbors at Creative Action for some summer camp fun. During two weeks in June, we co-hosted summer camp for kids ages 5-9. Campers made seed-to-plate connections and experimented with new vegetables and new recipes. SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Sat. July 15th from 9am-1pm:

  • Some Like It Hot: Visit Tecolote Farm for sweet and hot peppers now through the fall! They'll also be coming with certified organic potatoes, garlic, pickling cucumbers, onions, butternut squash and more!
  • Italian Tradition: Stop by Lira Rossa for artisan cheese made from local milk in Moulton, Texas. Pick up a fresh and creamy mozzarella for your caprese salad, or an aged Latteria to enjoy with your favorite baguette.

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Sat. July 15th from 9am-1pm:

  • Cool it Down: Nothing beats that summer heat like melons from Johnson’s Backyard Garden! Swing by for canary, cantaloupe, galia, honeydew, Korean and sweet watermelons all summer long. Tomatoes, eggplants, squash, onions, okra and more still coming in strong. Available at both Sunset Valley, Downtown and the Triangle this week.
  • Certified Organic: Hairston Creek Farm has been providing Austin area families with fresh in-season produce since 1990. Stop by for some beans, squash, tomatoes, eggplant, okra, peppers and eggs.

  • Spicy Treat: Check out ATX Homemade Jerky for a variety of beef flavors including Original, Peppered, Spicy Peppered, KC BBQ, Teriyaki, and Sweet N’ Spicy.

Are you interested in becoming a farmer? Farmshare Austin is accepting applications for their upcoming Farmer Starter program, August 21-December 21! This 18-week intensive farming program combines supervised field time and classroom learning to create the best way to get grounded in the practice and underlying concepts of organic farming.
