SUSTAINABLE FOOD CENTER - WEEKLY NEWS

A Note From Our Executive Director, Ronda Rutledge

One of the largest factors in farming and ranching is the weather, with many growers stating that mother nature is the single most important element when it comes to food production. Texas has been hard-hit, with devastating results in the southeast. We are collecting stories, along with our partners, about the destruction of fields, livestock and property so that we can best address the needs of the amazing families that grow food in our network. In this blog post, our Farm Direct team shares some important information for growers affected by Hurricane Harvey. As we get more information, we’ll continue to share.

We’re also part of a larger effort through One Voice Central Texas to respond to the needs of evacuees who are temporarily in Austin as well as other communities. It’s times like this when human service agencies become even more unified by the common value that people come first. While SFC’s work is geared toward helping Central Texans grow, share and prepare healthy local food, we are part of a larger collective and so grateful to have incredible relief agencies who are working their hearts out right now. We want to thank them as well as send messages of resiliency to all those affected by this historic event.
