Reaching Milestones with SFC Farm Stands

We are thrilled to share an exciting milestone that our Food Access Department reached this week: Our first ever Community Engagement Workshop for Farm Stand Facilitators! Hailing from all across Austin, 10 Farm Stand Facilitators participated in our workshop. These individuals are community leaders from Rundberg, Dove Springs, and Far South, and they participated in the workshop as an effort to expand their portfolio of outreach tactics and increase their impact in their communities in a peer learning environment. This was an event of many “firsts”… Keep reading to learn more!

SFC FARMERS' MARKET HAPPENINGS

SFC Farmers' Market at the Triangle to Close October 25th
After much thoughtful analysis, conversations with our farmers, vendors and staff, we have decided to close our SFC Farmers’ Market at the Triangle. Over the past decade, our Central Texas food community has seen amazing growth in the number of sales opportunities for our local producers, and we are so proud that our Triangle market helped to shape this growth. Unfortunately, it appears now that this market location is no longer a viable option for our farmers, ranchers and food artisans. We have had 10 wonderful years running this market and serving the surrounding neighborhood. We hope that closing our Triangle market will allow us to better serve our Sunset Valley and Downtown farmers’ market locations, as well as explore new possibilities for our vendors and customers. The proposed last day of our Triangle market is Wednesday Oct. 25th. We hope you will come out and see us before then as we bid a final farewell to this market which has helped to launch the businesses of many local Austin producers.

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Sat. Sept 9th from 9am-1pm:

  • Duck Eggs: Visit Munkebo Farms for a sale on duck eggs - $9.00 per dozen. Duck eggs add loft in baked goods, have 25% less water than chicken eggs, a better lipid profile and have a larger yolk to white ratio. Plus, they can usually be eaten by those who have a digestive intolerance to chicken eggs.
  • End of Summer Variety: Tecolote Farm will have Sweet Red Bell Peppers, Mixed Hot Pepper Pints, Purple, White and Long Lavender Eggplant, German Red Garlic, Elephant Garlic, Butternut Squash, Thai Basil, Garlic chives, Thyme, Cucamelons, Green Okra, Red Okra, New Mexican Chiles, Serranos, Jalapenos, and Tecolote T-shirts!

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Sat. Sept 9th from 9am-1pm:

  • Personal Aromtherapy: Medicine Woman Herbs has new personal aromatherapy inhalers varieties: Hot Flashes, Grounded (anxiety), Breathe Free, and more! These organic essential oils are loaded onto organic cotton in a handy to carry pocket or purse inhaler.

SFC Farmers’ Market at the Triangle, Wed. Sept 13th from 3pm-7pm:

  • Pay It Forward: Josh from Ranger Cattle spent part of last week in Rockport handing out burgers to first responders. Say thanks by stopping by for some ground beef, steaks and roasts of your own at our Triangle or Downtown markets.
