Guest Teacher Spotlight: Miles Sims of The Wild Game Table


Through his group, The Wild Game Table, Miles Sims makes wild game accessible to anyone interested in the full "field to table" experience. Wild Game Table meet-ups cover everything for the ethical harvesting and field dressing of small and big game animals, from hunting and tracking techniques to butchering, processing and storage. In his cooking classes, Miles shares techniques and recipes for cooking with wild game. With an open forum for discussions and opportunities for hands-on experiences in all stages of the process, The Wild Game Table makes it possible for you to fill your freezer full of healthy, happy & correctly harvested meat for all seasons.

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Sat. Oct 21st from 9am-1pm:

  • Fine Beans: Feed your soul with great chocolate from Cocoa Puro this weekend. Kakawa cocoa beans are five chocolates in one bite. New this weekend are dark chocolate strawberry balsamic truffles.
  • Free as a Bird:  Belle Vie is at it again bringing the freshest pastured duck breasts, eggs and legs to the market. Pick up a hot cup of seafood or duck bisque, grab a jar of turkey rillettes and a handful of macarons to have a truly gourmet day in the park.

 
SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Sat. Oct 21st from 9am-1pm:

  • Crisp Fall Flavors: Just in time for these chilly days, Johnson’s Backyard Garden has crisp fall carrots! Grab a bunch of greens, some fresh herbs and a handful of potatoes and you’ve got soup for dinner. You can also find Swiss chard, curly kale, dino kale, acorn squash, a fall bouquet of radishes, a tasty variety of eggplants, okra, a rainbow of sweet peppers and zucchini.
  • Fresh and Fizzy: Wunder-Pilz has you covered whether this cool front persists or we have a few more days of summer in us. Grab the newest canbucha flavor: Coco Kempii. This otherworldly flavor is a combines cacao, mint, goji, lime, mate, and more! While picking up a can for later, try a kombucha pop to diversify your cooling booch options.

Austin Fermentation Festival
The Austin Fermentation Festival is an educational event that celebrates all things fermented in Central Texas and will run from 10am  -  4:30pm on October 22nd at Barr Mansion. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Texas Farmers’ Market Farmer Emergency Fund, which offers financial assistance to TFM farmers and ranchers in times of environmental, personal or other crisis. NeighborWoods Tree Giveaway
TreeFolks will have just over 1,000 5-gallon sized trees to giveaway to Austin residents on October 28th our SFC Farmers' Market at Sunset Valley. The NeighborWoods program is a partnership between TreeFolks and the City of Austin to help combat Urban Heat Island Effect, reduce energy costs, and cool homes. Learn more »

Join Johnson's Backyard Garden at their Fall Open House on October 28th. Think scavenger hunt, fall photo booth, contests, yoga, and more! Circle Brewing 0.5k Micro Marathon
Craft beer lovers come compete on an epic scale - all while supporting SFC - on November 4th! The 0.5K (aka running with pints) is a 1640ft race that takes place in the Circle Brewing parking lot. During each heat, every participant is given two plastic pints with a fill line and a spill line for beer, spill too much and you’re disqualified! Learn more »
