Thanksgiving Turkey at the Markets

Fall Into SFC Farmers' Markets

Every year around this time I step outside, feel a crisp breeze and realize that fall has once again snuck quietly into Austin. I change my coffee order from iced to hot and dream about roasting pans of root veggies for dinner. It’s also around this time that I remember to put in my order at the farmers’ market for my Thanksgiving turkey! Read on to learn how you can support SFC’s farmers by buying a local, pasture-raised turkey this year. If this cool weather inspires you to pull on a light jacket and grab your reusable totes for a morning at the farmers’ market make sure you don’t miss this weekend’s Fall Festival happening at our Downtown and Sunset Valley markets.

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Sat. Oct 28th from 9am-1pm:

  • All Tomorrow’s Parties: We always make time to stop by Oma and Opa’s Farm not only for this week’s freshly harvested veggies like sungold cherry tomatoes, green beans, broccoli and cucumbers but for a jar of hot pickled okra which has us dreaming of Sunday morning’s bloody marys. Pick up some pastured chicken eggs and your weekly stash, and get your brunch on!
  • Sweet and Fresh: You may know Byccombe Natural Solutions by Springfield Farms for their array of goat’s milk soaps, shiitake salve and all natural lip balms but this weekend stop by for their fresh fall crops as well. Arugula, baby beet greens, kale and French breakfast radishes are all fresh in from the fields this week.

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Sat. Oct 28th from 9am-1pm:

  • Mean Greens: After a long hiatus, Esperanza Farms is back at Sunset Valley. These organic and aquaponics-grown lettuces, herbs and other greens are tender and tasty. Try for yourself this weekend!
  • Break Bread: It wouldn’t be a proper trip to the farmers’ market without stopping by Texas French Bread for a freshly made baguette, rustic sourdough loaf or a raspberry croissant to munch on while taking in the sights. Don’t forget to grab a pair of ginger cookies for your late night cravings or a challah loaf for tomorrow morning’s French toast. See them at Sunset Valley and Downtown.
  • NeighborWoods Tree Giveaway: TreeFolks will have just over 1,000 5-gallon sized trees to giveaway to Austin residents. Learn more »
