Learn to Save Your Seeds!

Learn to Save Your Seeds

I planted my first garden with my parents when I was just 5 years old... One day my Dad rushed in and said “I have a surprise for you.” We trudged out to our little plot, he pointed to a tuft of long grass and said “pull right here.” I have never before or since been as truly awed as when I pulled a carrot from the ground on that morning. Caring for plants has the ability to make me feel like a shocked 5 year old from time to time, and saving seeds from my successful crops is one of my most fulfilling endeavors. Interested in learning more about why you should save your seeds? Keep reading on our blog to find out!

  • Some Like It Hot: Ricardo of El Cruz Ranch is always on the go, but if you pay a visit to his eponymous food truck he may pause long enough to hand you a hot bowl of 3 bean chili and regale you with tales of his cattle herds. Order a plate of al pastor, picadillo or veggie tacos to split with your friends; get extra peppers if you can handle the spice!
  • Roots of Plenty: You can always find a few devotees hanging around the Margaret’s Farm booth for multicolored farm-fresh eggs and huge heads of broccoli. Pro tip: get there early if you want to pick up some fresh turmeric, ginger root or bay leaves.

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Sat. Jan. 27th from 9am-1pm:

  • From the South to Your Mouth: Haven’t gotten a bite to eat from Sudakas Latin Fusion yet? Swing by and grab one of their scrumptious sandwiches at Sunset Valley this weekend: from their spin on a delicious Cubano, to the slow-roasted pork grilled cheese, the guys at Sudakas have got what you need!
  • Prioritize Probiotic: Wunder-Pilz is back at Sunset Valley this weekend! Try their rotating varieties of kombucha on tap, or grab one of their can-buchas for some probiotics on the go. New product on the table this week: fermented hot sauce!
