Meet Betty: Community Leader and Farm Stand Champion

Fresh for Less Farm Stands are part of a city-funded initiative to bring healthy, tasty food to area residents. They are spaces where community members can purchase locally-grown produce at a low cost, engage in the local food system, and gain access to knowledge about cooking healthy food. Farm Stands are located in high needs areas and are fully operated by leaders from their community. One of these amazing leaders is Betty at Hart Elementary. Keep reading to learn more about Betty and her work to advocate for Farm Stands in her area. Continue Reading » »

Farm to Plate On Sale Now!

SFC FARMERS' MARKET HAPPENINGS

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Sat. March 10th from 9am-1pm:

  • Pig Pen: Blue Earth Farm is slowing down on their pork business, so stop by to get the last of the bones and belly while they are in stock. As always, they will be bringing pastured chicken in whole, quarters or pieces.
  • Sweet Thing: We all deserve to treat ourselves before music festival season gets underway, why not do it with a trio of mini tarts from Julie Myrtille Bakery? Every brightly colored meringue cookie and chou praline is handmade by Austin’s premier pastry chef. New this week: the Brioche Sandwich made on homemade French brioche with French mayonnaise.
  • What’s This? Wondering what that large pink and green shipping container is doing at the corner of 4th and Guadalupe? It’s the Curiosity Cube! This mobile science lab will be parked at the Downtown market all day, so stop by to do some hands on experiments and learn about DNA, microbes and much more!

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Sat. March 10th from 9am-1pm:

  • Large Eggs and Microgreens: Yard to Market Co-op will have a full booth this weekend: stop by early in the market day to get your hands on some of their delicious eggs. Didn’t make it in time for eggs, or eggs aren’t your thing? They’ll still have a full bounty of veggies from the members for you, including delicious microgreens!
  • Fresh Herbs and Fresh Starts: Launch your spring season(ing) right with help from La Flaca! Returning from the winter break with their herbs in hand, this weekend you’ll find the Flacitas with fresh chives, cilantro, parsley, and mint. Wanting to start things off in your own garden? The Flacitas will have a number of other transplants and starts available, from strawberries, to lemon balm, and even a bunch of pansies!
