Advocating for Texas Farmers in the Farm Bill

Every five years Congress sits down to write what is colloquially referred to as “Farm Bill,” a piece of legislation that governs farm production, rural development, and many nutrition programs. As members of the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC), SFC is assuming a leadership role in advocating on behalf of Texas farmers and ranchers. SFC FARMERS' MARKET HAPPENINGS

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Sat. March 24th from 9am-1pm:

  • Fresh Cuts:  Byccombe Natural Solutions from Springfield Farm is back this weekend with all things goat’s milk soap and shiitake salve. Don’t leave the tent without a bag bursting with fresh cut spinach, arugula or baby kale, and grab some late season carrots and radishes while you are at it.
  • Something Fishy: Concha’s Salsa and Seafood brings fresh gulf snapper, shrimp and rockfish every weekend to the Downtown market alongside fresh hot tomato or tomatillo salsas. Want something for the road? Dig into an overstuffed snapper taco simmered to perfection with garlic and spices for an incredible start to your day.
  • Clean up your act: Mrs. Meyers Clean Day all natural products will be at our Downtown market this weekend! See their representative to learn about their earth-friendly cleaning supplies with simple garden inspired scents.

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Sat. March 24th from 9am-1pm:

  • Berried Alive:  Get yourselves to market real quick-like on Saturday: berry season has begun! Engel Farms will have strawberries by the pint, but they won’t last long. Brussel sprouts and slicer tomatoes ride alongside strawberries on Engel’s table this weekend.
  • Getting Tea’d Up: Whether you’re looking to start your spring growing or to start your day, La Flaca has got you covered! Stop by for their herb and veggie transplants (strawberries, tomatoes, marigolds, and more) or their returning selection of herbal teas. Teas for try include borage, mint, and lemony herbs, perfect for a warm spring day.
