SFC Farmer's Market Downtown 15th Anniversary

This Saturday - Celebrate the 15th Anniversary of our SFC Farmers' Market Downtown!

On May 3rd, 2003, 25 farmers, 26 food and craft vendors, 1 bleary eyed band and a handful of staffers woke before the sun and set out to transform an under-utilized city park into bustling pop up farmers’ market. There were over 3,500 visitors that first day and if you ask some of our longtime staff and vendors, a lot of those folks are still up with the sun every Saturday morning to fill their well-worn canvas bags with produce and chat with farmers that have turned into friends.

15 years later, we are celebrating this momentous occasion. We invite all our shoppers to join us for a 15th Anniversary Party this weekend where it all started, in Republic Square. Get swept up in shopping while Mariachi Alma de Tejas, a student led band out of UT Austin, serenades you with songs of love. Head over to the photobooth to snap a pic with your friends, or just hang out on the lawn sipping on lemonade as you listen to Tejano Band Ricardo Negreto Y Los Diamantes. Head to the deck at 10:30am to wish the market many more, witness the cake cutting (free cake for everyone!), and let the kiddos go wild on some piñatas.

SFC FARMERS' MARKET HAPPENINGS

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Sat. May 26th from 9am-1pm:

  • Veteran Owned: If you want to taste the highest quality wagyu beef Texas has to offer, look no further than Ranger Cattle. The herd grazes 3000 acres of land right here in Austin, never has any additives or hormones and freely ranges. Do your duty by supporting this veteran owned ranch this Memorial Day Weekend.
  • Rosé All Day: Don’t let the mild spring fool you; summer has officially started now that Texas Keeper Cider has Grafter Rosé! Serve this spritzy beverage chilled at your Memorial Day bbq’s this weekend, but make sure to pick up enough cider to get you through the whole week as well!

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Sat. May 26th from 9am-1pm:

  • Summer Standbys: Spring is slowly giving way to the summertime, which means you can see the best of both worlds right now at the market! Stop by Yard To Market Co-op for tomatoes, cucumbers, and summer squash, or get your leg up on the peppers of summer and the berries of spring at Middle Ground Farm’s booth!
  • Peach of the Pie: Peaches are at market right now, but if the hand-to-mouth method of eating peaches isn’t your speed, come by Le Renard Patisserie for one of their peach pies! Featuring peaches from Engel Farms, and made with love and care, these lovely local treats are sure to please.
  • The End of Kimchi?! Not yet it’s not! Stop by Boulanger Fermentations and grab their local kimchi before it’s gone. The kimchi is local in its ingredients and its production; it includes Good Vibes’ pea shoots, Party Fowl Farm’s daikon radishes, and several other veggies from our local farmers!
