Announcing Our New Spanish Language Facebook Group - Come Fresco y Sano en Austin!

You might have noticed in the past year and a half that we have a new Spanish language version of our website and more bilingual signage at our SFC Farmers’ Markets. Our next exciting step in bilingual engagement is our new SFC Facebook group for Spanish speakers called Come Fresco y Sano en Austin, a collaborative effort between Sustainable Food Center and the public relations consulting group, Inspirare Communications. This Facebook group will be a space for ideas, recipes, and resources to talk about everything from preparing healthier meals with quality and seasonal ingredients to growing your favorite local produce.

SFC FARMERS' MARKET HAPPENINGS

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Sat. June 30th from 9am-1pm:

  • A Triumphant Return: Swing by Big Brazos Sustainable Farm this weekend to get your summer veggies including huge white eggplant, juicy red tomatoes, and fresh canary melons. Round out your basket with plenty of okra, cucumbers, sungold tomatoes, beets, huge elephant garlic and plenty of spicy pickled okra and dill pickles from Oma and Opa’s Farm.
  • Value Added: Sometimes season extending technology is as simple as freshly prepared gazpacho made with all homegrown ingredients, like tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers from Indian Hills Farm. Pick up some cuts of beef to make weeknight meals, and get there early to grab some extra large German striped tomatoes or a bag of peanut brittle to munch on while you walk around.

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Sat. June 30th from 9am-1pm:

  • Gut Check: Wondering how to take advantage of all the probiotic goodness out there and take care of your tummy? Stop by Boulanger Fermentations to pick up an assortment of fermented veggies to top your tacos, salads, sammies (or just to eat straight from the jar.) Karé Sauerkraut is a spicy cabbage ferment, while Beetnik Kraut is a hot pink mild variety. Try them all this weekend!
  • Farm to Shower: Our fave homesteaders at Party Fowl have gone and cleaned up their act with an all new straight from the garden line of soaps. Stop by for free smells this Saturday, and stick around to pick up fresh whole chickens, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, arugula and duck eggs!
