Charles Schwab Volunteers

Volunteering with the "Schwabbies"

At Sustainable Food Center, we have something for everyone - including group volunteer days in our SFC Teaching Garden, which is where we hold field trips, garden tours, and grow produce for our classes and to donate to other organizations.

For one company, volunteering in the SFC Teaching Garden is an annual occurrence. On May 24th, 30 “Schwabbies” showed up for their 5th SFC volunteer day, during Charles Schwab’s 15th annual volunteer week. We spoke with them to learn a little bit more about what they do and why they think giving back is so important.

SFC FARMERS' MARKET HAPPENINGS

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Sat. July 7th from 9am-1pm:

  • New Vendor Alert! Mineral Health is starting at the market this weekend and bringing their whole plant hemp oil extract to help you nourish your body and ease your mind. Floreli Sunflower Seed Hummus is heading out for the first time; stop by to try dips from classic to dill to curry or chili pepper.
  • Summer Stock Up: Every good Texan knows the secret to surviving July is a constant flow of crisp sliced melons. Find watermelons, sugar babies, cantaloupe, honeydews and Korean ‘chamoe’ melons this weekend at Johnson’s Backyard Garden. Also in stock are plenty of eggplant, okra, peppers, winter squash, potatoes and aromatic bunches of fresh basil, mint, rosemary and thyme.
  • Say Cheese: Our friends at Richardson Farms are coming in hot and saving your next BBQ with plenty of cheese to melt atop oodles of hamburgers. All cheese is made from their own A/2 milk, so head over to try cheddar, asiago, pepper jack, smoked gouda and more!

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Sat. July 7th from 9am-1pm:

  • New Vendor Alert! Satisfy our inner child at Dream Drop Clay and pick up a perfectly miniature watermelon slice necklace, hot pink donut earrings or a rose in a bottle no larger than a nickel. Aroma Secrets has all organic and handmade beauty products like Bellisima Face Cream with floral extracts and coconut oil. Once you are looking good head to Feel Butter Baby Buns for hot and fresh sticky buns, made from a recipe handed down over generations.
  • More Minis: Yard to Market Coop has fresh quail eggs for a limited time only! Use these diminutive eggs for sunny side up toppings on summer salads, for tiny devilled eggs or make a jar of pickles. Along with this seasonal treat you can find plump cherry tomatoes, huge bunches of basil, spicy garlic and everything you might need for a classic marinara.

Find even more vendor and product listings, what's in season, and who's in or who's out, on our This Week at the Markets webpage »
