This First Saturday, Celebrate Families and Breastfeeding!

Please join us this Saturday at our SFC Farmers' Market at Sunset Valley for our First Saturday Celebration and a special event to kick off the month of August: The Big Latch On!

The Big Latch On is a celebration that takes place during world breastfeeding week, which is recognized all around the world during the first week in August, with the goal of promoting and celebrating breastfeeding.

THIS WEEK AT THE SFC FARMERS' MARKETS

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Sat. Aug 4th from 9am-1pm:

  • Something Fishy: The smell of garlic and tomatoes wafts through the air every Saturday morning from Concha’s Salsa and Seafood’s fresh snapper tacos. Pick up a jar of salsa, a dozen jumbo Gulf shrimp or a whole red snapper for later.
  • Cornerstone: Don’t let the midsummer blues get you down, stop by Johnson’s Backyard Garden for the season’s first sweet potatoes, huge red watermelons, tender pods of okra and huge buckets of potatoes. Don’t forget to make yourself an herb bundle for a week’s worth of pesto, gremolata, salad dressing and marinades. Got some time during the week? Consider volunteering at the farm or packing shed for a medium share of veggies!

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Sat. Aug 4th from 9am-1pm:

  • I Can Pickle That: Consider preserving the season’s bounty this weekend with fresh produce from Flintrock Hill Farm. Long beans, pickling cucumbers, squash and more are ready to be fermented or topped with seasoned vinegar and turned into crisp pantry staples. Don’t forget to grab a bunch of arugula or salad mix for fresh summer salads as well!
  • Stay Caffeinated: Sometimes we need a little boost, that’s what our friends at Texas Coffee Traders are here for! Grab an icy cup of cold brew, vegan mocha latte or lavender lemonade and power through your market shopping in no time.
