Pedal to Beat Breast Cancer!

The Texas Mamma Jamma Ride is a local non-profit dedicated to helping those facing breast cancer and their families, and we are thrilled to be one of the beneficiaries of this year’s ride. For many people, Sustainable Food Center may not be the first group that comes to mind for cancer support, but our Happy Kitchen Cooking After Cancer series has helped over 200 cancer veterans build healthy eating habits to support recovery.

Keep reading to learn more about how the Texas Mamma Jamma Ride supports our Cooking After Cancer classes.

THIS WEEK AT THE SFC FARMERS' MARKETS

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Sat. Aug 18th from 9am-1pm:

  • Scrub Up: The best way to start and end these long summer days is with a moisturizing bar of soap from Springfield Farm and Byccombe Natural Solutions. Try the Fireside goat’s milk soap with turmeric, cedarwood, birch and sandalwood, or pick up a shiitake salve featuring mushrooms from Kitchen Pride for dry skin needs.
  • Stay Hydrated: Did you know cucumbers are high in antioxidants and soluble fiber, which along with their high water count makes them perfectly hydrating summer snacks? Pick up some sweet and crunchy cucumbers this weekend from B5 Farm. Balance your basket out with onions, potatoes and eggplant for a week of hearty meals.

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Sat. Aug 18th from 9am-1pm:

  • Diminutive Dreams: Stop by Dream Drop Clay for miniature polymer clay creations and detailed cold porcelain jewelry. Tiny succulent pendants (smaller than a penny) and miniscule terrariums make great gifts for the special folks in your life!
  • Veggie Delight: Our friends at Yard to Market have some enterprising backyard growers in their network, wrestling delicious veggies in these high temperatures. Pick up malabar spinach, okra, summer squash, habanero, pears, peaches, melons, a few late summer tomatoes, herbs and eggs!
