Follow that Farm! Instagram Recommendations from a Farmers' Market Manager

By Amy Gallo, SFC Farmers' Market Programming Manager

I count myself pretty lucky to be a part of the farmers’ market team here at SFC. In a typical work week I might visit an iconic rancher, book a children’s choir to serenade our customers, or help a vendor design clearer signage. In the midst of all this, I always make sure to take some time to check out what our farmers and ranchers are doing on social media.

I want to take this opportunity to let you in on these moments of sunshine in anticipation of our first ever #FollowFriday! Take a look at some of our vendor’s best work and get inspired to flock to the markets this weekend to take a piece home with you.

THIS WEEK AT THE SFC FARMERS' MARKETS

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown, Sat. Nov. 10th from 9am-1pm:

  • Picnic Time: The sun is out and it’s time to break out the old picnic set up for a proper park lunch. Grab a pack of crackers from the Sourdough Project, followed up by sunflower seed hummus from Florelli Foods and a rich jar of Belle Vie Farm and Kitchen’s famous rillete for a spread to remember.
  • And Everything Nice: It’s the time of year when Lost Pines Yaupon Tea switch from sweet and zesty iced basil lemon yaupon tea, to a warm and soothing apple spice blend. If you are lucky they will have both flavors this weekend, so you can straddle the seasons. Don’t forget to pick up a bag for your morning cup!

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley, Sat. Nov. 10th from 9am-1pm:

  • Looking Good: Esperanza Farm is pushing out big buttery heads of Laurel lettuce that are perfect to pair with the extra crispy radishes coming from Hairston Creek Farm. Need to jazz up your salad even more? We created a simple vinaigrette from olive oil, red wine vinegar and guava jam from Party Fowl Farm for a sweet and tangy dressing!
  • Sour Times: Make sure you don’t leave the market without replenishing your stock of fermented goodness from Boulanger Fermentations. The Japanese inspired Kare Kraut is filled with probiotic goodness and has a kicky curry flavor. Traditional Sauerkraut and a bright purple Beetnik Kraut are also on offering, so you can pair these with everything!
