THIS WEEKEND AT THE MARKETS  -  SAT, DEC 8, 2018

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown:

  • Rooting for You: Colder weather brings about a shift in seasonal produce, and on farms now most of the activity is below the surface. Stock your pantry with the season’s root vegetable crops for slicing on salads, stewing in soups, and snacking on hand-to-face. Animal Farm has their sunchoke (aka Jerusalem artichoke) coming into the market this weekend - a root loved for its sweet, nutty, lightly earthen tone. Amongst other rooted options at market are carrots, turnips, and radishes from Johnson’s Backyard Garden.
  • Stock Your Sweets: The holidays are upon us, and with them come the right to indulge! Looking for a tasty morning treat? Try the Chelsea buns from Cake and Spoon. Looking for French confection, made with local farm products? Try the award winning croissants, tartes, meringues, and other pastries from Julie Myrtille Bakery. With the fall weather zig-zagging on us, it’s still a good idea to have some of the vegan ice cream from Luv Fats in your fridge for a warm day, with hot mandazi coming soon to serve as a cone. Speaking of vegan, have you tried the pies from Happy Vegan Bakery? They’re taking orders for Christmas pies now!

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley:

  • Don’t Chicken Out: Farmers’ market eggs are known for being the best around, and for good reason! They’re fresher, richer, and come from sustainable local farms. The farmers serving them up at Sunset Valley this weekend are Richardson Farms, Hairston Creek, and Shirttail Creek. Looking for duck eggs? Grab them from Party Fowl Farm!

Don’t let Thanksgiving ward you off of fowl meals, Dewberry Hills Farm is back at market to give you the bird this weekend! Far from being rude, Jane and Terry run some of the best birds in the biz and want to get them to you at the market this Saturday. Come on down early and grab one of their popular whole chickens before they’re all gone!
