Engaging Community Leaders in Food Access

“I see myself in my customers,” Michelle expressed, as we wrapped up our third training for the community leaders who work with us as Promotoras and Facilitators for SFC’s Food Access projects.

Facilitators work to engage customers in the “why” and “how” about cooking with local produce, in addition to providing customers with a positive shopping experience at Fresh for Less Farm Stands. Promotoras work to inform new customers about Fresh for Less sites and conduct recipe sampling events. When it comes to food, each of us is on a journey of learning.

Teaming up with our The Happy Kitchen program, we brought Food Access leaders from across our various sites together to provide additional training and strategies to promote products at the markets. Keep reading to learn more about this inspiring day! Continue Reading » »

THIS WEEKEND AT THE MARKETS  -  SAT, JAN 19, 2019

Thank You Odd Duck, Sour Duck and Barley Swine!
We'd like to thank Odd Duck, Sour Duck Market, and Barley Swine for supporting SFC Farmers’ Market growers, farmers and ranchers during the month of January. All month their vendor fees will be waived through their support. We are grateful to these restaurant partners for supporting local food producers and for giving back to the community.

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown:

  • Citrus and Snapper: Stop by and see Hersh at Indian Hills Farm this weekend for some of the last of their Meyer lemons of the season. They go great in baking, hot toddys, or to squeeze over the selection of fish available from Concha’s Seafood!
  • Got Your Goat?: Stop by Oma and Opa’s this weekend to get the best the farm has to offer. They’ve started bringing goat to market, as well as their pickles, cabbage, broccoli and more!

SFC Farmers’ Market at Sunset Valley:

  • A Delightful Time: This weekend, sweeten up and chill out with the Rescue Blend of CBD honey from Bee Delightful! You can find them at both the Sunset Valley and Downtown markets, hooking you up with their locally produced, CBD infused honey.
  • Keeping You Rooted: This time of year heralds plenty of root veggies and dark leafy greens, straight from the field to your table. Come by Johnson’s Backyard Garden this weekend to grab carrots, radishes, cabbage and more!
