Everything You Need to Know About Food Safety and SFC Farmers' Markets

If you follow food news closely, it seemed as though 2018 was the year of food-borne illness. Between contaminated lettuce, ground beef, burritos and eggs, it seemed like no food items - from grocery stores to fast casual dining - were left safe. After a study was released by Penn State regarding food safety at farmers’ markets, we at Sustainable Food Center decided to take a look at our farmers’ practices, and our oversight, to make sure we are keeping consumers safe. Farm to Plate

THIS WEEKEND AT THE MARKETS  -  SAT, MAR 16, 2019

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown and at Sunset Valley:

  • Escape the Fray: Head to Sunset Valley to stroll the wide clear paths while you shop for hydroponic salad greens, fresh green garlic, bright stalks of rainbow chard and pastured beef. Get in tune with a sound balancing session, grab a piping hot tamale and let the kiddos run free on the big blue blocks of Imagination Playground while tapping your toe to Johnny McGowan’s Rugged Gents.
  • Or Head On In: If you are Downtown this weekend be sure to remember your yoga mat for free yoga on the lawn with Wanderlust Yoga at noon. If you get there early peruse the lanes for handmade pork tacos, locally sourced iced tea, zingy little microgreens and whole frozen chickens. Bob Appel will be there on the mic from 9-12 singing all your honky tonk favorites.
