6 Changes to the Nutrition Facts Label You Need to Know


If you haven’t heard by now, the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) is requiring food companies to update their nutrition labels for packaged foods by January 1, 2020 (or 2021 for smaller companies). Nutrition fact labels can be found on all foods sold in stores, excluding fresh produce and meat. They contain lots of useful information that can contribute to healthy eating habits when utilized correctly. Some companies have already adopted the new label, so this week we are sharing with you the 6 changes you need to be aware of now.

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown and at Sunset Valley:

  • New Vendor Alert! We’ve got new vendors at the market this weekend, come on down to our Downtown market and see what’s fresh on the tables. Grab vinegar from Other Mother Vinegar, tonics from Planet, and pesto, samosas, pakoras and more with the return of Kala’s Kuisine!
  • WIC’n Out: We’re in the swing of spring, and with that comes FMNP season. Come on down to Sunset Valley and meet with the local WIC nutritionists to learn about using WIC benefits at market. For you early birds, run by Flintrock Hill Farm right at 9am to get some strawberries before they’re all gone!
