3 Food Bills That Just Might Become Law

Last week, we were honored to take part in Local Foods Awareness Day at the Texas Capitol, hosted by our friends at the Farm and Ranch Freedom Alliance (FARFA). We covered a lot of ground! Dozens of farmers, ranchers, food entrepreneurs, and farmers’ market managers from across the state met with our State Representatives and Senators to urge passage of bills that will strengthen the local food system in Texas.

Heading into the home stretch of the 86th Legislative Session, more of our priority bills are still standing than in any Session in recent memory. Keep reading to learn about 3 food bills that have a real shot at becoming law in the next three weeks.

THIS WEEKEND AT THE MARKETS  -  SAT, MAY 11, 2019

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown and at Sunset Valley:

  • Eggheads: Looking to grab eggs this weekend? Farmers’ market eggs are the best in the bunch, but you’ve gotta act fast to get your hands on a dozen. We’ve got egg vendors aplenty at both markets, but there’s no telling how long their stocks will hold in the face of hungry Austinites. Show up early for a chance at snagging some fruit as well- you'll find strawberries and peaches on the table if you’re early enough.
  • Just Peachy! It’s peach season, and we’ll have some of Central Texas’ fine peaches at Sunset Valley with the return of Engel Farms this weekend. Swing by early and get some before they’re gone.

For information on which vendors will be at market, what products are in season, and more visit our This Week at the Markets webpage »
