Hike and Bike Trail

The Upper Boggy Creek Hike and Bike Trail is Now Open!

There’s a new way to get to Sustainable Food Center on bike or foot—the Upper Boggy Creek Hike and Bike Trail! After more than ten years in the making, a stretch of hike and bike trail that runs alongside SFC’s Teaching Garden and the St. David’s Foundation Community Garden has been completed.

The trail includes a beautiful new bridge over Boggy Creek, and runs from Downs-Mabson Ballfield all the way to the south. Want to check out the trail? A great opportunity is coming up TOMORROW, Friday, July 12th from 6-8pm, when the Urban Trails team hosts the Upper Boggy Bash, a festive official opening for the trail. There will be fun activities all along the length of the trail, including one at our Teaching Garden.

THIS WEEKEND AT THE MARKETS  -  SAT, JULY 13, 2019

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown and at Sunset Valley:

  • Flirty Florals: Our Downtown market is your weekly destination to pick up bouquets of flowers of all shapes and sizes. Animal Farm has been attending the market for over ten years and consistently brings the most interesting and vibrant bundles of flowers that husband and wife team Gita and Cas Van Woerden can find. Imagine big blooms of zinnias, lisanthus, and lantana nestled within found and foraged branches from their farm in Cat Springs.

Also check out Cassiopeia Farm who will have a rainbow of sunflower varieties, mono-bunches of tuberose and summery mixed bouquets in addition to compost tea for your very own flower garden at home.
  • A Group Effort: We’d like to take the time to highlight one of the coolest vendors at the market this weekend, Yard to Market. Yard to Market is a cooperative effort of backyard gardeners, micro-farms, small scale producers and your neighbor over there who just so happens to have a high-yield peach tree right in their front yard.

The offerings change every week, based on what community members can contribute to the table, so you will be sure to find heirloom varieties passed down over generations, hard to find culinary ingredients, cute bunches of herbs, bumper crops of fruit and a cookbook full of community inspired and in-season recipes.
