Regenerate Reform

A Letter From Our Executive Director

To Central Texas food enthusiasts and SFC supporters:

Last year, our agency invested in outside consultation to help us address the critical issues of farmland loss, east Austin displacement and environmental degradation given Austin’s explosive growth. As a result of this 9-month visioning session, and with input from a large number of our partners, we’re pivoting to focus more upstream to deal with the systemic and policy issues surrounding farm viability and food access and education.

We also have a reimagined set of core values and goals, as well as a renewed mission statement to cultivate a just and regenerative food system so that people and the environment can thrive!

Founded almost 45 years ago with a primary goal to teach people to grow their own food, SFC honors the legacy programs that have shaped our organization and lead the way for many other agencies and projects to take seed and germinate. Follow the link below to learn more about our new vision and what this means for the future of our organization.

THIS WEEKEND AT THE MARKETS  -  SAT, JULY 27, 2019

SFC Farmers’ Market Downtown and at Sunset Valley:

  • Maker Space: There’s more to market than farm fresh veggies. Here at SFC we support artisans, creatives and small businesses committed to producing locally made products. Remember Dream Bijoux the next time you need to buy mom a new pair of earrings, Animal Farm to brighten up your home with a bouquet of flowers, or surprise a coworker with a small box of handmade incense from Dream Lion.
  • Heat of the Moment: When it’s hot outside get hot inside and pick up an array of peppers this weekend! Saga Farms has anaheims that would pair wonderfully with their tomatillos for a fresh enchilada sauce, and Johnson’s Backyard Garden has everything from sweet yellow bells to fiery hot red cherry peppers. Want to skip the heat but keep all the flavor? Priverno Farm has compact habanada peppers, perfect for salsas and chilis but without all the heat!

Don’t forget the kiddos at home this weekend as Bliss Kid Yoga will be at Sunset Valley with mindfulness activities and fun things to keep the whole family grounded.
