3 Ways You Can Deepen Your Connection to Our Local Food System

For many people, the New Year is a time to think about fresh starts, setting goals, and healthy habits. As we head into this New Year, we’re offering up a few ideas for starting or deepening your connection with a healthy local food system.

2020 tested our food system and challenged us to creatively respond to new food access challenges. In the words of Vandana Shiva, “We need to reinvent our eating and drinking, our moving and working, in our local ecosystems and local cultures.”

Are you ready to embrace a deeper connection with your food and your community? Read on for a few ideas to get you started!

THIS WEEKEND AT THE MARKETS
Highlights, Vendors, Events and more. Downtown and Sunset Valley - Sat. Jan 16

DOWNTOWN: Market partnerships are popping up all over the place! Richardson’s Farm is partnering with Mulberry Dry Goods for a special discount. After buying milk and eggs from this local farm, you’ll get $2 off your purchase of any Mulberry baking mix! Just down the row, you can stop by a pair of newer vendors for a serendipitous snack. Mercado Sin Nombre makes fresh corn tortillas (to order) and is right next door to TLC Kimchi. Put these two together and you’ve got a recipe for kimchi-quesadillas and the easiest breakfast, lunch, or late-night snack imaginable. A match made in heaven!

SUNSET VALLEY: This weekend, Sunset Valley is exploding with over 30 vendors including Sweet Sensi with their locally grown and produced full spectrum CBD oils. Purchase a bottle of tincture for everyday stress support or a box of chewables for a special treat. Then head on down to HiFi Mycology (featured this month on the cover of Edible Austin!) for bindles of beautiful mushrooms. Blue oyster, tender chestnut, and lion’s mane are all on the table this week.

To keep our vendors, staff and customers safe, we request everyone wear a face covering or mask while in the market area. Click here to learn more about our safety measures. SFC Farmers' Market match SNAP, WIC and FMNP benefits with Double Up Food Bucks! Visit our website for more information on which vendors will be at market, what products are in season, and more.

Thank You!
We'd like to thank everyone who gave for their support to SFC during this past holiday season. Because of people like you, we raised over $57,000 by December 31st - exceeding our goal by 125%! Plus, these gifts will go even further thanks to the generous matching grant from Tito's Handmade Vodka. We couldn't support our local farmers and increase access to healthy food in Central Texas without our community, and we are so grateful for each and every one of you. Thank you!
