DOWNTOWN: Chop Chop Ramen is Downtown this weekend with homemade flavors made easy with their heat and serve ramen cups. Try the Kimchi Ramen for a spicy and simple lunch, or try to snag the last of the monthly special farmer’s ramen featuring local produce like rutabaga and cauliflower. After that take a stroll down to Shirttail Creek Farm for your weekly fresh eggs, pastured beef, and whole chickens perfect for soup – in case the weather turns on us again.

SUNSET VALLEY: Flameleaf Farm is back after a short winter hiatus with delicious greens, roots, and some surprises from the garden. Try the sweet and tender heads of napa cabbage in a stir fry this week! When you’ve loaded up on veggies it’s time to try the sweeter side of things. Julie Myrtille Bakery has brioche bread, tarts, and just in time for mardi gras delicious and traditional French King Cake. This is not the New Orleans special, but rather a Gallette de Rois with thick and creamy frangipane filling. This seasonal delicacy is only around for a short while so make sure you preorder one today!

WHAT WE'RE READING THIS WEEK
We've dug up the dirt so you don't have to.

"How America’s Food System Could Change Under Biden"
By Kim Severson, The New York Times - New school meal standards? Help for small farmers? Maybe, but first the new administration has to deal with hunger, food safety and a diminished U.S.D.A.

"Federal government wants Americans to buy groceries online, but most people on SNAP can’t"
Romina Ruiz-Goiriena, USA TODAY - Roughly 30% of American households buy groceries online, which health experts recommend during the pandemic. However, less than 5% of people on SNAP can afford to buy groceries this way. We need to prioritize SNAP purchases for all online grocery platforms, including ones that support our local food system.

"Vertical Farming’s Success Depends on the Cheapest Lightbulb"
By Jess Shankleman, Bloomberg - Indoor vertical farming has been expected to change agriculture as we know it - but it hasn’t quite done that yet because of energy costs. And some argue it may not be a good strategy for providing more food access to low-income communities. What would the impact be if the same money was invested in rural areas and farmers growing in-ground food using regenerative techniques?
