Volunteer Opportunities

  • Green Gate Farms welcomes volunteers for February! You should try to attend the volunteer orientation or farm tour, Sat 12-1pm or Thurs 9-10am. For more information see their website.
     
  • Mobile Loaves and Fishes' Genesis Gardens has workdays Wed, Thurs, and Sat from 7:00am-10:30am. Meet at 2 Olmos Dr. Austin TX 78741. RSVP required with Steven at steven@mlf.org. See their facebook site here.
  • Urban Roots will have youth-led community volunteer mornings on Sat 2/9 9:30am-12:00pm, and Sat 3/30 9:30-12:00pm. Sign up for one or all by RSVPing to volunteer@urbanrootsatx.org Urban Roots farmer's market.jpg
  • TreeFolks are looking for volunteers to plant saplings at Shoal Creek Greenbelt or Gillis Neighborhood Park Sat 2/9 from 9:00am-12:30pm.
  • Urban Patchwork is busy busy. Join them at the Cherrywood Farm Harvest and Garden Tour at In.gredients Sat 2/2 9-11am. Also, attend the Special Projects Work Day on Sundays 2:00-6:30pm to help get UP farm plots spruced up for spring! More events here.
  • 5604 Manor Community Garden seeks gardeners who want to join their garden or volunteer Sat. 2/2 9am-12pm for the spring 2013 season. Contact Mark McKim for further information: markilous07@gmail.com

  • UT MicroFarm, UT's  sustainable farm will continue building its tool shed. First workdays will begin Sat 2/2 10am-1pm at 2204 Leona St. Join them on facebook or tumblr.
  • Johnson's Backyard Garden seeks workshare volunteers on Tues-Fri 8am-1pm to harvest and pack vegetables for the CSA. You will also take home veggies with you!
  • Green Corn Project will begin its Dig-Ins on March 23rd! Sign up soon HERE.

  • SFC Community Garden Leadership Training Sat 2/9 at UT Elementary. Register Here. Free training. Come learn how to start a community garden! We will cover community organizing, how to secure land, garden organization structures, fundraising, and community outreach.
  • SFC School Garden Leadership Training. Sat 2/16 at Barrington Elementary. Free training. Register Here. Learn to organize a garden team, plan and implement a project.
  • The Natural Gardener FREE Classes: Sat 2/2 10am, Growing Olives in Texas!

Community Events

  • Community Cinema Screening/Panel: "Soul Food Junkies" @ Round Rock Library Thurs 1/31st, 7:00pm. Brought to you by Food for Black Thought. Come to this free event, open to the public and engage in conversation about Black communities and food. See their facebook event .
  • Austin Green Drinks Happy Hour Tues 1/29 from 6-9pm at In.gredients (2610 Manor Rd). Join Paige Hill, director of Urban Patchwork, to hear an overview of how UP began and how to get involved.
  • Texas Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association Conference. Feb 7-10th, talks by Brenton Johnson of Johnson's Backyard Garden and Paige Hill of Urban Patchwork. Register at tofga.org 
  • Farmer for a Day Camp for Kids at Green Gate Farms. Sat 9-1pm.Children help us run the farm, caring for animals & harvesting food! Register online.
  • Alamo Community Garden has plots available! Contact them via their facebook site.
