We've Moved! We're Now in
the NEW SFC Training Facility

SFC Training Facility

As of Friday, June 7th, we have moved into our new home! But the campaign isn’t quite complete. We have raised 91% of our $4.5 million capital campaign goal. And if you are interested in one of the unique naming opportunities in our new space, this is the FINAL MONTH that you can pledge your gift over 3 years! Simply contact our Capital Campaign Director, Angela Osborn, at angela@sustainablefoodcenter.org and invest in Sustainable Food Center and our vision of a vibrant, healthy food system. Please consider making a gift to SFC to help us cross the finish line on this 3-year effort! DONATE TODAY →

Donor Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Donor Ribbon Cutting

Our campaign donor “ribbon” cutting was an amazing evening – guests were able to interact with all of our programs. Thank you to the guests who planted herbs in our rooftop planters for our teaching kitchen. It was wonderful to experience our volunteer-led “Taste the Place” upstairs in our Farm Direct pod with fresh, local produce. Our fabulous nibbles in the teaching kitchen and community room were from two recipes in our cookbook through The Happy Kitchen/La Cocina Alegre® with varying cheeses from our amazing market artisans. And we were so thankful to Austin Wine Merchant and Independence Brewing Company for donating the wine and beer for all to enjoy.

Program Replication Training a Success!

Program Replication Training

Immediately following SFC's long-anticipated move to our new center, we held our second annual Program Replication Training from June 10-12 in our very own space! Twenty-two individuals representing 10 different entities from Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas came to learn how to implement one or more of SFC’s current programs. Throughout the training, individuals engaged in planning sessions, participated in hands-on activities, spoke with program partners, and toured school and community gardens and SFC farmers’ markets. Farm to Work Provides
Meals for Head Start Families

In the midst of chaos just before our move, SFC was contacted by a Head Start program in Liberty Hill that wanted to give each of their 86 Head Start families enough food for a special graduation meal. Through SFC’s Farm to Work program, we were able to secure 91 baskets of fresh, local produce, (5 additional baskets for teachers). Imagine the children’s delight when they sat down for that meal of sweet potatoes, yellow squash, red potatoes, onions, with peaches and blackberries for dessert. Lara Adamson, Family Advocate for Head Start, had this to share,"Our Head Start families were so grateful and thrilled to receive the fresh local produce. The big fat blackberries and peaches were an especially unexpected treat!"
